Crochet Halloween Bat

Amigurumi Halloween Bat Pattern | beginner Pattern

This is a quick crochet bat pattern that is great for beginners and easily customizable for different Halloween costumes and colors. This pattern was made using Hobbii Honey Bunny Yarn but can be substituted with any heavy weight yarn or super bulky yarn.

Part 1: Bat Body

(Make 1)

This is the bat body and face made in one part so it is easy to get started. You can use a magic ring/circle, but for this pattern I started with a chain circle.

Chain Circle

Ch 4, sl st to the starting chain.

Row 1 - Row 12

Row 1: Ch 1, sc 10 in the center of the circle. Sl st to join and complete the first row.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc 2 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the first row.

Row 3: Ch 1, [ sc 1, sc 2 in the next stitch ]. Repeat [ ] as a two stitch repeat around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 4 - 10: Ch 1, sc 1 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 11: Ch 1, [ sc 1, sc2together ]. Reapeat [ ] as a two three stitch repeat around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 12: Ch 1, sc 1 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 13 - Row 25

Row 13: Ch 1, sc 2 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the first row.

Row 14 - 22: Ch 1, sc 1 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 23 -25: Ch 1, sc2tog in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Sl st one more time to secure then cut off the yarn and weave in the ends with your darning needle.

Part 1: Bat Body

(Make 1)

Row 11: Ch 1, [ sc 1, sc2together ]. Reapeat [ ] as a two three stitch repeat around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 12: Ch 1, sc 1 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 13 - Row 25

Row 13: Ch 1, sc 2 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the first row.

Row 14 - 22: Ch 1, sc 1 in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Row 23 -25: Ch 1, sc2tog in each stitch around. Sl st to join and complete the row.

Sl st one more time to secure then cut off the yarn and weave in the ends with your darning needle.

Part 2: Bat Legs, Wings, Ears

(Make 2)

Time to make the legs, wings and ears of the bat. Make two of each!

Legs

Chain row: Ch 4, sl st to the first chain to create a circle.

Row 1 - 4: Ch 1, sc 10 around. Sl st to the first ch to end the row.

Leave a long tail and then cut the yarn. Use your darning needle to secure each leg on row 2-4 of the bat body.

Wings

Chain row: Ch 4, sl st to the first chain to create a circle.

Row 1: ch 1, sc 6 in the chain circle.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn the circle around and crochet the other direction. Sc 2 in each stitch.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn the circle around and crochet the other direction. [ Sc 1, sc 2 in the next stitch ]. Repeat [ ] around for a two stitch repeat.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn the circle around and crochet the other direction. Sc 1 in each of the next 6 stitches. Ch 1, then sc 1 in the next stitch. Sc 1 in the next 4 stitches, then ch 2 and sc 1 in the same stitch. [ Sc 1 in the next 2 sts, ch 2, sc in the same stitch ]. Repeat [ ] one more time. Sc 3 in the next for stitches.

Fasten off with a long tail to weave on the body. Weave the wings on the side of each bat body between rows 5 and 12.

Ears

Chain row: Ch 4, sl st to the first chain to create a circle.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc 6 in the chain circle. Sl st to join.

Row 2 - 5: Ch 1, sc 4, turn.

Fasten off with a long tail to weave to the body. Weave the ears between row 23-25 of the bat body.

Part 3: Black Accents, Face, Eye Patch

(Make 1)

This is the last step for the bat. You can choose to not add the black accents or add them in gray. The face can be made with safety eyes but scrap black yarn works as well.

Bat wings

Attach black yarn (Yarn B) to the outer edge circle of the wings. Sc in one stitch across, then at the corners, ch 1, then sc in the remaining stitches.

Fasten off then weave in the ends.

Ear details

Attach black yarn (Yarn B) to the outer edge of the ears. Sc 5 along the outer edge then ch 2, sl st back to the first stitch (picot stitch), then sc 2 in the next two stitches. Picot stitch again then sc 1 in the last stitch again.

Fasten off then weave in the ends.

Face details

For the eyes, use a darning needle and weave in the yarn between row 18-20 of the body.

For the mouth, use another piece of yarn and sew a loose straight yarn between two stitches on row 17 of the body. Then feed the yarn between row 15 and loop the loose yarn to pull it down and create a little smile. Weave in loose ends.

Eye Patch

To add a little more Halloween flare, add an eye patch.

Chain row + Row 1: Make a chain circle, then sc 10 in the circle. Sl st to join

Row 2: Ch 1 and sc 4 for row 2, ch 40 to fit around the head. Fasten off and weave in the ends back into the eye patch.
