Crochet Beginner Sweater | beginner Pattern

This sweater pattern is designed as a made to measure pattern that can easily be adjusted for any body shape of color palette. Choose to make all of the color changes or use one solid color. This pattern is made for beginners to practice hdc and making a simple sweater pattern. Feel free to customize the pattern as you see fit!

Part 2: Sweater

(Make 1)

The sweater is made in the round and then split at the chest into two panels that are later reseamed together at the shoulder for easy assembly.

Lower Torso

Chain Row: With color A, Ch 140, then slip stitch (sl st) to the first chain, making sure nothing is twisted round.

Row 1: Ch 1, then half double crochet (hdc) into each stitch around for a total of 140 sts. Sl st to the first hdc to join.

Row 2: Attach color B with a sl st and ch 1 then hdc around, sl st to join.

Row 3: Attach color C with a sl st and ch 1 then hdc around, sl st to join.

Row 4: Attach color D with a sl st and ch 1 then hdc around, sl st to join.

Rows 5 - 36 rows: Repeat the color changes for the lower torso half of the sweater.

The color pattern is as follows and is a 16 row repeat:

Tip: Fasten off after each row and crochet over the tail from the previous row for less weaving at the end.

Back and Chest Panel

Row 1: With color A, join with a sl st then sc in half of the stitches around (70 stitches). Fasten off.

Row 2 - 20 : Continue the pattern, incorporating the tails from the previous row to minimize weaving ends.

Repeat row 1 - 20 on the other side of the sweater to make the second panel.

To assemble: Turn the sweater inside out and attach the outer top corners of each panel with stitch markers.

Sl st with color A and starting from right to left, Single crochet 20 (sc) across the top to make the first shoulder, fasten off and skip 30 stitches then fasten on again with a sl st and sc 20 to the end to complete the second shoulder.

Row 1: Ch 1, then half double crochet (hdc) into each stitch around for a total of 40 sts. Sl st to the first hdc to join.

Row 2: Attach color B with a sl st and ch 1 then hdc around, sl st to join.

Row 3: Attach color C with a sl st and ch 1 then hdc around, sl st to join.

Row 4: Attach color D with a sl st and ch 1 then hdc around, sl st to join.

Rows 5 - 56: Repeat the color changes for the lower torso half of the sweater.

The color pattern is as follows and is a 16 row repeat:

Make 2 sleeves to complete the pattern.

To assemble: Turn the sweater inside out and slide the sleeves rigth side up into the arm holes. Attach the sides of each sleeve with stitch markers.

Sl st to join color A and ch 1, then single crochet 40 (sc) around the opening grabbing both the sleeve and the panels as you join, sl st to the first.
